Why do we need to conserve water?

Why do we need to conserve water? For the environment, of course. With every action we take, we should be thinking about how it will affect the environment and future of our planet.

The average person uses a staggering 140 litres of water a day! Conserving water saves energy, as energy is needed to pump, filter and heat water into your home; so in turn, conserving water reduces your carbon footprint, making a huge difference to the environment. Humans waste so much water that could help save our ecosystems, such as wetlands (next time you’re running the tap think about how it is affecting otters!). Just waiting for the water to run cold wastes 10 litres of water a day. So how can we do better? Well, if you do have to wait for the tap to run cold, collect the initial water and use it to water plants or put it in the fridge for later (there’s never an excuse to waste even a single drop).

Look at them, why would anyone want to risk their future!

Otters

One way of conserving water is drying out traditional products such as mouthwash, toothpaste and cleaning products, these are a lot kinder to the environment for a variety of reasons. Drying out products reduces their volume, for example one glass jar of our mouthwash tablets is the equivalent of 7 plastic bottled mouthwashes (containing water), resulting in a lower volume/weight of product to transport, which reduces the fuel and carbon emissions of shipping. It also means that only the exact amount of water needed is used by not adding it to the active ingredients until use.

Toothpaste Tablets

By drying out products it is estimated companies could use 20% less plastic by only shipping active ingredients (no water). We have done one better by removing plastic all together. Our products are all packaged in recyclable, compostable or reusable materials. All of our dried toothpaste tablets and mouthwash tablets come in glass jars which can be reused (could use them to collect running water) but can also be reused with our refill packs that are just shipped in kraft-card boxes (making them even lighter).

Running a tap can waste 6 litres of water a minute so make sure you’re turning the tap off when you’re cleaning your teeth. Our toothpaste tablets don't need water, just chew and brush as usual!
