Which type of toothbrush bristles should you pick?

Which type of toothbrush bristles should you pick?

This is an important question that not many people consider and just pick the middle option as there is a lack of information about the bristle options. There are many different types of bristles/brushes that have different benefits to your oral health; soft, medium, firm interdental and sonic.

Soft bristles:

Soft bristles have many oral health benefits, especially if you have sensitive teeth or erosion. If you push hard on your teeth when brushing, using a soft bristled toothbrush won’t cause damage to the teeth or gums.

Medium bristles:

Medium bristles are the most commonly displayed in shops and probably what most people are used to. The firmer the bristles are on a toothbrush, the more plaque will be cleaned, so for a deeper clean medium bristles are perfect.

Firm bristles:

Firm bristles are the least common brushes found in shops but we stock them! People choose firm brushes for a deeper clean. They are perfect for stain removal and removing the most plaque.

Interdental Brush:

Interdental brushes are used for cleaning in between the teeth. Interdental brushes are perfect for reducing plaque and the risk of gingivitis. People with Braces would benefit from using interdental brushes to clean in between the wires of their braces.

Sonic Toothbrush:

Sonic toothbrushes have an oval brush head that pulsates at high speed. The toothbrush makes vertical movements so you should brush with it as you would a manual toothbrush, this is an advantage if you’re not used to an electric toothbrush as you can clean as you would with a manual. Sonic toothbrushes are excellent at plaque and prevent tartar build up. Sonics can prevent gingivitis, bleeding gums and swollen gums.
